"Doing it right - Tasting it right: promoting sensory quality of olive oil to high school students"

The educational program with the title "Doing it right - Tasting it right: promoting sensory quality of olive oil to high school students" was completed with great success and participation of students and teachers. It was designed and implemented as an initiative of the Captain Vassilis and Carmen Constantakopoulos with the support of the Kalamata Olive Oil Taste Laboratory of the Technological Educational Institute of the Peloponnese.

Approximately 150 students took part in the program. At the closing event, held on March 17 at the Municipal Cultural Center of Kalamata, the participating students presented the program's activities. The main purpose of the program was to teach students how to link the quality of olive oil with all the life stages of the olive tree and olives. The program gave them the opportunity to become familiar with all the stages of olive oil production, from cultivation methods to processing and standardization. Particular emphasis was placed on the use of the human sensory organs as a tool for obtaining reliable information. The tasting of the olive oil was adjusted to the students' educational needs. The program was designed in such a way as to provide experiential learning activities both at schools and at the Kalamata Olive Oil Taste Laboratory of the Technological Educational Institute of the Peloponnese. The educational program will also take place in the other areas of Messinia in the current 2015 – 2016 school year.
