PEAR
PEAR

The pear is a pome fruit, that is, its skin has a relatively hard texture. The main local varieties cultivated are the kontoula and krystalli pears. Pears are harvested by hand in early autumn and are either forwarded directly to markets or kept in cool chambers for 2 to 8 months.

NUTRITIONAL VALUE

Pears are a good source of carbohydrates and carotenoids with beneficial effects for vision. Their content in vitamin E protects cells from free radicals, strengthens the immune system and protects the heart. The pear is considered a low glycemic index fruit and constitutes a safe choice for people who suffer from food allergies and for children.
