DRIED FIGS

Messinian dried figs are a renowned natural delicacy, undeniably identified with the region. Their distinctive taste, high nutritional value and naturalness make figs a popular fruit and an important commercial product. Figs are naturally sun-dried without any chemical additives. According to the traditional drying technique, figs are picked from the tree when ripe or from the ground after having fallen from the tree and are dried in the sun. They are then fumigated, sorted and packaged. The Kalamon variety is also known as armathosykia or tsapelosykia because the dried figs are packaged and sold in tsapelas, i.e., shaped like a crown.
