Messinia mainly produces white autumn varieties. The propagation of cabbage can take either take place by seed or from seedlings grown in a nursery.

NUTRITIONAL VALUE

It is well known that many phytonutrients act as antioxidants, neutralizing free radicals. Today, new research indicates that vegetables of the cabbage family strengthen the defense mechanisms of the body to fight harmful molecules such as free radicals. Recent studies have shown that individuals who consume cabbage are at a lower risk of developing prostate, colon and lung cancer, even when compared to individuals who consume vegetables less frequently (Smiechowska et al, 2008). Besides the protective effects of phytonutrients against cancer, cabbage is an excellent source of vitamin C, another antioxidant that protects cells from the harmful free radicals.
